Ashanti Region Launches Kumawood Film Association To Revive Local Industry

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has announced the formation of the Kumawood Ashanti Film Association as a central strategy to revive the region’s declining movie industry.

Dr. Amoakohene confirmed the association has elected its leadership, who will constitute a board responsible for appointing a management team to handle daily operations at their secretariat.

He described this development as a significant move towards repositioning the Kumawood sector for enhanced growth, unity, and long-term sustainability. Dr. Amoakohene explicitly assured the association of both his personal support and the backing of the national government in the revitalization effort.

“I remain committed to supporting them as we work together to implement the other recommendations in the report with the full backing of H.E. the President and the Hon. Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture,” the Minister stated. This commitment underscores the government’s involvement in the initiative aimed at restoring the vibrancy of the Ashanti Region’s local film production hub, historically centered in Kumasi.
