Ghana: NHIA Official Killed in Bawku Conflict-Related Attack

The District Director for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Bongo, Mahamadu Seidu Akugri, has been killed in a violent attack in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
According to reports, unidentified suspects opened fire on Akugri’s vehicle, killing him, and then set the vehicle ablaze. The attack has been linked to the ongoing conflict in Bawku.
Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has condemned the killing, describing it as “the shooting, killing, and burning of the body of Mahamadu Seidu Akugri.” Ayariga urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In his statement, Ayariga also called for calm and encouraged focus on the ongoing efforts led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to find a lasting solution to the Bawku situation. Ayariga extended his condolences to Akugri’s family, referring to him as “my late comrade.”
