There Is No Genre Like ‘Afro HighLife’ – DDT To Kuami Eugene

Music producer Elijah Nortey Thompson, known as DDT has said Kuami Eugene should embrace pure “Highlife” music and not fuse it with Afro beats.

The ‘Odo Pa’ producer said in an interview with alltunezgh.com when reacting to Kuami Eugene’s new EP dubb “Afro Highlife”, that Kuami Eugene is trying to fuse Afro music into highlife music, which he believes isn’t right.

He added that other genres of music are welcomed but “we as Ghanaians shouldn’t forget ours”.

DDT emphatically stated that highlife music is different from Afro music, which he said was made by Fela, a Nigerian musician who got his inspiration from Ghana’s highlife music.

He further added that, Kuami Eugene’s new single which is tittle “Te Na Fie” would have still been a hit song if he (Kuami Eugene) didn’t sample Obibini Takyi’s “Akosombo Kania” song

He urge Kuami Eugene to be original in producing his songs and express hope that Ghanaians will come to love highlife music as they did back in the days.
